There is a clear, structured path forward.

What is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

OCD symptoms are a cycle of the following

Obsessions: “are unwelcome and distressing ideas, thoughts, images, or impulses that repeatedly enter your mind. They may seem to occur against your will. They may be repugnant to you, you may recognize them as senseless, and they may not fit your personality.”

Distress: Often in the form of intense anxiety or panic.

Compulsions: “are behaviors or acts that you feel driven to perform, although you may recognize them as senseless or excessive. At times, you may try to resist doing them, but this may prove difficult. You may experience anxiety that does not diminish until the behavior is completed.”

Relief: After a compulsion is completed, you feel temporary relief until you are caught back at the beginning of the cycle.

Common obsessions include

  • Contamination fears

  • Excessive doubt

  • Harming self or others

  • Intrusive thoughts

  • Intrusive sexual thoughts

  • Religious or moral concerns

  • Ordering or arranging

  • “Not-Just-right thining

  • Hoarding

Common compulsions include

  • Washing or cleaning

  • Checking (Oven, lights, locks, etc.)

  • Repeating (tasks, rereading, rewriting)

  • Counting, lucky numbers

  • Seeking reassurance, confessing

  • Mental Compulsions

    • Self-reassurance

    • Replacing “bad” thoughts with “good” thoughts

    • Praying,

    • Reviewing

OCD is not about being “neat” or “organized.”
It’s about feeling trapped in a loop you can’t shut off.

What is Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and how does it work?

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the most effective, research-backed treatment for OCD.

  • We will “expose” you to the obsessions that have been controlling your life. As this is done over and over again, the fears behind your obsessions will start to lose their power, and they will loosen their grasp on your life.

  • During these exposures, you will work on not responding to them with complusions and rewire your brain to tolerate uncertainty

ERP is structured and collaborative. Together, we will:

  • Identify your specific OCD cycle

  • Create a personalized exposure plan

  • Gradually face feared situations

  • Eliminate compulsions step-by-step
